Sustainable FDI

From 6 to 8 May 2015, in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, UNCTAD and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) held a regional capacity-building workshop on the promotion of green FDI for investment promotion agencies (IPAs) from Asia and the Pacific.

The event brought together 31 participants and experts from 20 countries and regions, representing 24 IPAs, ministries, special economic zones (SEZs) and other institutions. Four modules of the workshop provided participants with insights into green FDI opportunities, location selection of FDI projects in renewables, the greening of industries, and IPA strategies for green FDI promotion. A visit to the semiconductor manufacturing plant of SK Hynix in Icheon was organized on the last day of the workshop. Presentations were given by UNCTAD staff and representatives of other international organizations, industry experts, location and low-carbon SEZ specialists, and representatives of best-practice IPAs from Asia and Europe, including Invest India, KOTRA, the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Spain’s Renewable Energy Center (CENER).
